Philipp Raimund: An Olympic victory and the next jump

2026 Olympic champion on the normal hill and seventh overall: Philipp Raimund, Oberstdorf and the Four Hills Tournament.
With his Olympic victory on the normal hill in 2026, Philipp Raimund reached a clear milestone in his sporting career. Even so, a second look is worthwhile for his profile ahead of winter 2026/27: at the World Cup season, his club and the different hills. One great evening says a lot about a career. A whole season says more.
The German ski jumper is part of the national team's Ia training squad for 2026/27. He finished the previous World Cup winter in seventh place. If you would like to follow him, Oberstdorf is a natural starting point: as the home of his club and a stop on the Four Hills Tournament. The individual line-up for each race must be checked separately.

From his birthplace of Göppingen to SC Oberstdorf
Raimund was born in Göppingen and competes for SC Oberstdorf. His connection to the Allgäu is therefore a specific sporting affiliation. It is more than the name of a later race venue. If you are planning a visit, you can place the club environment and World Cup event in the same location. The ski jump remains a separate sports facility beside the public ski areas.
As a junior, Raimund won Junior World Championship gold with the German team in 2018 and 2019. His World Cup debut followed in December 2019 in Oberstdorf. The tournament venue therefore appears at several points in his career: as the home of his club, the site of his first World Cup appearance and a recurring competition venue.
When getting to know his career, it is worth distinguishing the junior team success from his later individual jumping. A team title is a shared result. It provides important context, but does not replace an individual record. This distinction also makes the figures in the box easier to understand.
Two different routes to the top step of the podium
In 2025, Raimund won a World Cup event in Lake Placid with the German mixed team. In March 2026, his first individual World Cup victory followed in Lahti. Between the two came his Olympic victory on the normal hill in Predazzo. All three achievements are part of his career, but only Lahti counts as an individual World Cup victory in this overview.
He finished the 2025/26 winter in seventh place in the overall World Cup and eighth in the Four Hills Tournament. These season results add a longer period to the gold medal. A title and an overall ranking are different measures. Looking at only one of them gives an incomplete picture.
This is particularly helpful when watching the sport. A normal hill and a large hill are different facilities. An Olympic medal on one does not make the challenges on the other any less demanding. So approach the next competition with an open mind: how do the approach, take-off and landing come together on this particular hill?
Oberstdorf and the 2026/27 tournament winter
For the opening event of the tournament in Oberstdorf, the local tourism website gives 28 and 29 December 2026. This information was checked on 22 October 2026. Check the current organiser's programme for the schedule, including qualification and competition. This allows you to choose the day you want to experience consciously.
A ticket for one discipline does not automatically give access to the other venue. This spatial distinction is particularly useful before looking for accommodation on a first trip.
For Raimund's winter, the tournament is an important reference point because several competitions form a series of their own. His eighth-place finish in the previous season provides historical context. The next edition begins with new jumps. Neither the gold medal nor the previous year's ranking can tell you how an individual attempt will turn out at the end of December.
Another highlight is the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun. The organiser gives 24 February to 7 March 2027, information retrieved on 22 October 2026. Choose which competitions you want to watch on site based on the programme. Personal participation depends on selection by the relevant federation.
Watch a jump from the approach to the landing
For your first visit, we recommend a designated spectator area from which you can follow as much of the movement as possible. A very close view of the landing area can be exciting. However, it may show you little of the take-off. So check the sightline on the stadium plan instead of simply looking for the shortest distance to the hill.
Oberstdorf has a railway station in the town. From there, plan the route to the entrance of the ski-jumping facility using the organiser's plan. The usual walking route may differ from the spectator route. Save the entrance for your ticket area and a meeting point for the group.
A fixed position is particularly useful when watching jumping. Observe the same section with several athletes and follow the displayed scores. The longest jump from your perspective does not necessarily mean the highest result. Distance and the other scoring elements belong together when assessing a jump; a call from the neighbouring row is no substitute for this overview.
Discover the Allgäu as his sporting home
For your own day on skis, choose an area that is open to the public. The ski-jumping facility and your ski mountain are different day destinations, even if they are part of the same trip.
Compare accommodation based on the actual routes to the cable car and spectator entrance. If the tournament determines your visit, the route from the stadium to your accommodation may matter more than an additional connection on your ski day. For a group, it also matters whether everyone can stand for long enough and where a break is possible.
On competition day, choose a visible point to focus on, such as the transition from flight to landing. Stay with that observation. By the next jumper, you will already have a comparison, and an Olympic name becomes a movement sequence you can follow at the hill itself.
