Two materials, one goal: keep going. What Löffler pieces made from Airblocc Ultralight and Race Motion deliver for cross-country skiing and winter running, how to combine them and where their limits are.
Key facts at a glance
- 01

- 02
Race Motion is a light, very stretchy and breathable knit that keeps you warm from the inside and is mainly used in midlayers and hoodies.

The pieces can be combined into outfits for cross-country training, warm-ups and running in the cold.
- 04
Neither material is rain protection: in persistent wet weather you need a waterproof layer.
What winter clothing needs to do in training
During the warm-up you are cold, after ten minutes at pace you are too warm, and on every open stretch the wind cuts straight through. You know the feeling if you train on skis or in running shoes in winter. A thick jacket does not help. What you need are pieces that weigh little, move with you and keep the wind out without making you overheat.
Löffler has been making cross-country ski clothing for decades and thinks of it as a layering system, from base layers to the weather-protection jacket. The guiding idea of the new collection is Keep going: kit for the days when others give up.
According to Löffler, the experience, ideas and tips of many active cross-country skiers have gone into the cut, materials and function of the Pro collection, and some pieces were developed directly with elite athletes. Two materials take centre stage: Airblocc Ultralight and Race Motion. Details on properties and origin come from Löffler's product information.

Airblocc is Löffler's softshell range, an elastic outer fabric that blocks wind and repels moisture from outside. That is what the AB in the product names stands for. Airblocc Ultralight is the even lighter version, a mono-material for high-intensity activities. It is breathable, windproof, water-repellent and made entirely in Europe.
Jacket and Pants Pro AB Ultra: for training on skis

The Jacket Pro AB Ultra uses Airblocc Ultralight on the front, shoulders, collar and sleeves. Inside is a stretchy thermal velour lining, a brushed fabric that feels pleasantly warm. It also has a high stand-up collar.
The Pants Pro AB Ultra apply the same idea to the legs: Airblocc Ultralight at the front, thermal velour inside. The long leg zips open in both directions, which makes the pants easier to put on with your shoes on and lets you vent up to the hip.

Löffler names training in rougher weather and the warm-up before the race start as the intended use. The two pieces are designed as an outfit.
Jacket Arrow AB Ultra and Tights AB Light: for running
For winter runs, Löffler has added the Jacket Arrow AB Ultra to its running collection. It is fully windproof, breathable and so light that you barely notice it. Stretch inserts at the collar and inner sleeves improve heat management.
It pairs well with the Tights AB Light: Airblocc Light at the front against wind and wet, a quick-drying fabric at the back. Reflective details make you more visible in the dark.

Race Motion: the midlayer that moves with you
A midlayer is the layer between your base layer and your jacket. Race Motion is a light, very stretchy knit for dynamic movement, produced in Europe. On the inside, a fine spacer knit holds a thin layer of air and keeps you warm, and the material is breathable too. Löffler uses it mainly for hoodies and midlayers.
The Midlayer Motion is designed for long runs in cold weather and dries quickly. Thumb loops protect your hands from the cold, the half zip with stand-up collar opens for ventilation, and reflective elements make you more visible in the dark.

For the ski trails, Löffler's Nordic collection offers an alternative: the Midlayer Fine Transtex Merino, a two-layer knit with fine merino wool that wicks moisture away from your skin. It is knitted in Löffler's own knitting mill in Ried im Innkreis, Austria.

Pro Breeze: for intense sessions
For intense cross-country training, Löffler developed the Pro Breeze outfit, the light, high-performance combination in the Pro collection. On the Jacket Pro Breeze, the chest, shoulders and collar are reinforced with Windshell, an additional windproof layer, while the back stays stretchy. Löffler developed the Tights Pro Breeze together with elite athletes. They protect the front of the thighs with Windshell and have long leg zips up to the knee.
Pro Breeze suits you if you want maximum freedom of movement and targeted wind protection at the front during intense sessions. For rougher weather and warm-ups, Löffler recommends the Pro AB Ultra with its thermal velour lining.

How to combine the pieces
The two materials complement each other: Race Motion keeps you warm as a midlayer, Airblocc Ultralight blocks the wind on top. The table is our suggestion based on Löffler's product descriptions, not a fixed rule. How much you wear depends on pace, duration, wind and how quickly you feel the cold.
Which combination for which activity
| Activity | Upper body | Legs |
|---|---|---|
Cross-country training in rough weather | Midlayer Motion or Midlayer Fine Transtex Merino, with Jacket Pro AB Ultra on top | Pants Pro AB Ultra |
Warm-up before the race | Jacket Pro AB Ultra | Pants Pro AB Ultra |
Intense cross-country training with plenty of freedom of movement | Jacket Pro Breeze | Tights Pro Breeze |
Long runs in the cold | Midlayer Motion, with Jacket Arrow AB Ultra on top | Tights AB Light |
The pieces are designed for training and racing, where weight and freedom of movement count.
What speaks for it
Jacket and Pants Pro AB Ultra, Jacket Arrow AB Ultra: Airblocc Ultralight blocks the wind and stays breathable
Midlayer Motion: warm, quick-drying and moves with you
Midlayer Fine Transtex Merino: wicks moisture away from the skin, with fine merino wool
Pro Breeze: maximum freedom of movement and targeted wind protection at the front for intense sessions
What to weigh up
All Airblocc pieces: water-repellent but not waterproof, so in persistent rain or wet snow you need a waterproof layer on top
Jacket Pro AB Ultra: only partly windproof, Airblocc Ultralight covers the front, shoulders, collar and sleeves
Pro Breeze: only partly windproof, the Windshell covers the chest, shoulders and collar
Midlayer Motion: no wind protection, that comes from the jacket on top
Conclusion
For Löffler, keep going means clothing that does not get in your way on cold, windy days. Airblocc Ultralight keeps the wind out, Race Motion keeps you warm as a midlayer. How you combine them depends on your training: for cross-country skiing in rough weather, the Pro AB Ultra is the natural choice, for long winter runs the Arrow AB Ultra with the Midlayer Motion.
