Packing list builder

Before a multi-day trip, a list makes sure nothing is missing and nothing is extra. Choose trip days, where you sleep and the conditions. The builder gives you a packing list to tick off.

How the calculation works

Every list starts with seven items that belong on any trip: backpack with rain cover, rain jacket, warm mid layer, first aid kit, water bottle, navigation with offline maps and a head torch.

Depending on where you sleep, it adds tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat and stove, or a sleeping bag liner; in winter, a hat, gloves, insulated jacket and vacuum flask. Spare clothing is planned as one set more than your trip days, six at most, because you can wash things along the way.

How to read the result

The list is the core. Add personal items such as medication, ID, cash for huts, sun protection and food.

Pack heavy items close to your back and at shoulder height and the pack will carry more steadily.

Frequently asked questions

Do I really need a liner in mountain huts?

In most Alpine club huts it is compulsory. It is light and keeps the blankets and you clean.

How much water should I carry?

That depends on temperature, duration and water sources. Take more in warm weather and check beforehand where you can refill.

What is missing for children?

More spare clothes, snacks and something to do in the hut. The list is designed for adults.
