Gear setup builder
Before you pick individual products, a framework helps: how big does the pack need to be and what always goes in it? The builder asks about activity, duration and weather risk and gives you a core setup.

How the calculation works
Backpack size depends mainly on the activity. Our guide values: about 8 litres for trail running, 20 litres for hiking days of up to ten hours, 30 litres for longer days, 35 litres for winter tours and 45 litres for camping.
For weather protection the builder has two cases: in wet or cold weather it suggests a hardshell and a dry bag, otherwise a light rain jacket. Navigation, first aid, a head torch, an emergency snack and water are always on the list.
How to read the result
The litre figure is a pointer for your backpack search. The list below it is the core you should carry on every trip, even in good weather.

Frequently asked questions
Why always a head torch?
Because trips can take longer than planned. In autumn it gets dark early, and a phone torch drains the battery you need for navigation and emergency calls.
What goes in a first aid kit?
At least plasters, blister plasters, an elastic bandage, a foil blanket and your own medication. A first aid course does more than any extra item.
Is so little really enough for trail running?
For short runs, yes. Many mountain races set a mandatory kit list that needs more room, so check the race rules.
