With a story: The Dolomite 54

A shoe named after the summer Italy stood on top of K2. Today the Dolomite 54 Low Evo is the shoe most people are buying at SportFits.

Some shoes you buy because everyone is talking about them. The Dolomite 54 has stood out for decades and still has not aged. In October, the 54 Low Evo was the item bought most often at SportFits. The 54 Low FG Evo GTX came third of all items. What we counted is what people actually bought.

From Montebelluna to K2

In 1897, 17-year-old Giuseppe Garbuio opens the “Fabbrica Scarpe Montello” in Montebelluna near Treviso. Dolomite's history begins with this shoe factory.

In 1954, on 31 July, Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli become the first to reach the summit of K2. According to Dolomite, the Italian expedition wore the brand's handmade mountain boots.

That is where the 54 in the name comes from: “Cinquantaquattro”, Italian for the year of the expedition. The 54 line still draws on this story today. Today's shoe is not an expedition boot. Dolomite describes the 54 Low Evo as a shoe for everyday wear, travel and walks.

From rock to pavement

The shape has stayed the same: the long lacing, the distinctive rand, the leather. Today the 54 is worn mostly in the city. In the Saxifraga 3.0 collection, the 54 Low gets a suede upper and a Vibram sole with a tread inspired by asphalt.

Looking after it

A 54 does not have to be thrown away once the first sole is worn. Many models in the 54 range can be resoled by a cobbler. The footbed and laces are sold separately.
