Weather is yesterday's problem: waterproof daypacks for everyday life

With the Tatonka Commuter Rolltop, your laptop, papers and spare shirt stay dry even in the rain: on the bike, on public transport and wandering through town.

Why a waterproof daypack earns its place in everyday life

Everyday life rarely goes to plan: you cycle to the office in the morning, carry a laptop and papers around at midday, and maybe pick up shopping or take a detour through town in the evening. The things you most want to protect on the move tend to be the most fragile ones — laptop, tablet, documents, whatever else runs on electricity.

A waterproof backpack means you stop thinking about any of that. You pack your things and it makes no odds whether the sky looks like sunshine or a downpour. Spray off the front wheel, a wet platform, sudden rain: all of it stays outside, while everything that matters stays dry and protected inside.

What makes the Tatonka Commuter Rolltop WP waterproof

Both models — the Commuter Rolltop 25 WP and the Commuter Rolltop 30 WP — run on the same well-judged concept. The top is closed by a waterproof roll-top: you roll the opening down and clip it shut rather than holding it open with a zip. Nothing gets into the main compartment from above.

Then there are the waterproof welded seams. They take a lot of load and let no water through where the panels join. The material on both packs is a hard-wearing 420 den nylon TPU in 100% polyamide, made waterproof and weldable by its PU and TPU coating. The water repellent finish is PFC/PFAS-free: according to Tatonka, the company leaves fluorocarbon compounds out of its dirt- and water-repellent treatment.

Bike, university, office, city: one pack, many routes

Tatonka designs both models as bike and courier packs, and for cycle commuters they are the obvious pick. Chest and hip straps hold the pack close to your body, and reflective elements on the front and shoulder straps help you be seen in traffic. Not every commute politely waits for dry weather.

The same strengths suit buses, trains and university just as well: the laptop compartment, the roll-top, the tough material and everyday volumes of 25 and 30 litres are practical on any daily route through town. And because the 30 WP carries a little more, it also works for short trips where work, sport and free time end up in one pack.

25 or 30 litres: which size fits your day?

Technically the two siblings are very close, and the difference sits mainly in volume and front kit. The 25 WP, at 25 litres and 1.2 kg, is the more compact option for the daily run. Its flat front pocket has a waterproof zip, and laser-cut elements on the sides take extra gear.

The 30 WP adds five litres of space, weighs only marginally more at 1.28 kg, and throws in a multifunction panel on the front plus a front pocket with laser-cut loops and a reversible reflective or neon sheet.

Comfort and visibility on the move

Anyone who moves a lot would rather not arrive at the office with a soaked back. Both models use the Vent Comfort carry system, with a central ventilation channel, a breathable AirMesh cover and two foam pads at the sides. That helps air circulate along your back and makes the pack more comfortable when you are working hard.

Add to that ergonomically shaped, padded shoulder straps, load control straps, a height-adjustable chest strap and a removable hip belt. They keep the pack close to your body, and Tatonka explicitly describes the 25 WP as sitting firmly against your back while cycling. Through the dark months, the reflective elements on the front and shoulder straps are a genuine plus.
