Nordisk relaunches the 2009 Companyon collection for autumn/winter 2026 – Crystal Down, Next to Nothing and Scandinavian design across five models.

The essentials at a glance

  1. 01

Nordisk brings back the Companyon collection – originally introduced in 2009, now revised and relaunched for autumn/winter 2026.

  2. 02

Five models: the women's down jackets Dagmar (coat) and Thyra, the Asta gilet, plus Harald (gilet) and Hjalte (jacket) for men.

  3. 03

At the heart of the collection are Crystal Down® (RDS-certified European down) and Next to Nothing® (outer material made from 100% recycled nylon) – designed for low weight, packability and durability, according to Nordisk.

  4. 04

Scandinavian design meets a colour palette inspired by Nordic nature.

A classic returns

Companyon is not a new name at Nordisk. The collection was first introduced in 2009 and is one of the better-known lines from the Danish brand. Nordisk itself dates back much further: founded in Copenhagen in 1901 under the name Northern Feather, the company began by processing feathers and down for bedding. It has operated under its current name, Nordisk, since 1991. For autumn/winter 2026, Companyon returns with a revised design: new fits, optimised details and a colour palette inspired by Nordic nature.

The campaign claim “Your Companyon. Our Heritage” sums up the idea: a reliable companion for life on the move that also reflects the brand's roots. Companyon is aimed at people who spend a lot of time on the move – travelling, going about their daily lives or enjoying outdoor activities – and want a jacket that keeps them reliably warm but can be compressed to a small pack size when needed.

Not every reissue feels right for its time. Companyon is worth a closer look because two proprietary technologies sit beneath its understated design, making the real difference – and because the collection is deliberately limited: five models rather than a broad range, each with a clear role between gilet and coat.

Crystal Down® and Next to Nothing®: the technology behind them

Next to Nothing®: packs down small, quickly shaken back into shape

Two proprietary Nordisk technologies lie behind the minimalist look of the Companyon collection: Crystal Down® and Next to Nothing®. According to Nordisk, both are designed to keep weight and pack size as low as possible without making major compromises on warmth and durability.

According to Nordisk, Crystal Down® is RDS-certified down sourced exclusively from Europe. Next to Nothing® is the outer material: an especially lightweight, thin fabric made from 100 per cent recycled nylon. You will find the technical specifications below in the FAQ.

In practice, this means the jackets and gilets can be packed down small and shaken back into shape – practical for a suitcase or daypack.

But the look also matters at Companyon: Scandinavian design is more than a label at Nordisk – it means pared-back shapes, muted colours and few visible logos. Companyon continues this approach without forgoing technical details such as an insulated hood or welded inner pockets – details that are used more than seen. When you first pick up the jacket, you usually notice the difference in its weight: it feels lighter than its warmth would suggest.

Five models for women and men

The range follows a clear logic: if you want full length and maximum warmth, choose the coat or jacket. If you are layering or want your arms free, for example when cycling in the city, one of the two gilets is often the better choice.

The Thyra jacket (€399.95) is currently available in Black or the cooler Blue Mirage.

For warmer days between seasons, the Asta gilet (€249.95) is often enough. In addition to Black and Black Coffee, it is also available in a bold Tibetan Red.

Dagmar ushers in the cold season: a down coat for €499.95, available in Black and the muted Black Coffee.

Companyon for men

Hjalte: down jacket for men

Hjalte is the men's jacket (€399.95) – deliberately available only in Black so it can be paired discreetly with everyday, business-casual and travel looks.

The Harald gilet costs €249.95 and is available in Black or Black Coffee – the lighter option for days when you want to keep your arms free, for example when cycling, or as an additional insulating layer under a hardshell.

Who Companyon is for – and who it is not

Companyon is designed for people looking for a versatile, lightweight jacket for travel, everyday life and moderate outdoor use – not for one extreme day, but for the many ordinary days in between. Anyone who values a small pack size, timeless design and long-term use will find a solid option here. The collection also works well as a gift because its colours and cuts are deliberately understated and unlikely to go out of fashion in two years.

Companyon is not ideal if you are looking for a jacket for alpine use or mountaineering or very cold, stationary activities – such as long periods spent standing outside in winter, when a warmer, thicker down jacket is called for. Anyone who needs maximum weather protection from a hardshell membrane, for example in persistent rain or strong winds, is better served by another category: Companyon is primarily an insulating layer, not weather protection. Other models are simply better suited to more technical uses such as mountaineering.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Nordisk Companyon collection?

Companyon is a collection of lightweight down jackets and gilets from Nordisk, originally introduced in 2009 and relaunched in a revised form for autumn/winter 2026. It comprises five models: Dagmar, Thyra and Asta for women, and Harald and Hjalte for men.

What is Crystal Down®?

Crystal Down® is the down used in the Companyon collection. According to Nordisk, it is RDS-certified (Responsible Down Standard, a certification system for animal welfare in down sourcing), comes exclusively from Europe and is traceable. The blend is at least 90/10 – that is, 90 per cent down and 10 per cent feathers – with a fill power of at least 600 cuin. The higher this figure, the more warmth for the same weight.

What is Next to Nothing®?

Next to Nothing® is the outer material of the Companyon collection. According to Nordisk, it was developed in Japan from 100 per cent recycled 10D Toray nylon. The ultra-fine yarn is, according to the brand, ten times thinner than a human hair and is woven into a ripstop structure (a fabric with reinforcing threads that stop tears from spreading) weighing just 26 g/m², with more than 60,000 weave points per square inch. The fabric is lightweight, breathable and down-proof, and is intended to remain robust enough for everyday use.

Is Companyon suitable for a winter holiday in the mountains?

For everyday life, travel and moderate outdoor days, yes. For alpine use, mountaineering or very cold, stationary activities, the collection is not designed – more technical models are better suited.

Is the whole collection currently available?

All five models are listed in the shop. You can see which sizes and colours can currently be ordered directly on each product page.
