SAXX: performance underwear from Vancouver, new at SportFits

SAXX is now available at SportFits. Since 2006, the Canadian brand from Vancouver has focused on a question that has long been answered in the footwear department but ignored in underwear drawers for decades: why put up with friction, sweat and constant readjustment when there is a technical solution?

The SAXX story begins on the cold waters off Alaska. Trent Kitsch spent hours there in a damp drysuit, dealing with the very issue men are reluctant to talk about: chafing down below.

Back on land, he could not shake the thought. As a former baseball catcher, he knew the shape of a catcher’s mitt and simply turned it upside down in his mind: a soft hammock built into the underwear, keeping everything in place and separated from the thighs. Together with a seamstress and a designer, he stitched prototype after prototype, using himself as the fit model. It was only the fourteenth attempt that fit as it should, and the BallPark Pouch and SAXX were born.

The breakthrough came in the USA in 2012, after which the brand gradually expanded into Europe. The company is still based in Vancouver, with a team of around 200 people and a clear focus on design and function.

Let’s get to the heart of it, quite literally. The BallPark Pouch is a small, three-dimensional hammock made from two mesh panels that gently keeps everything in place: nicely centred, well ventilated and with a little space from your thighs.

The idea behind it is simple. Where skin would otherwise stick to skin, there’s now a soft fabric sling in between. In practical terms: less sticking on hot days, significantly less chafing over long distances, and no more discreet reach into your trouser pocket to secretly sort things out.
