New at SportFits: Klättermusen

Klättermusen roughly translates as “the climbing mouse”. Founded by mountaineers, the Swedish brand has been making gear for ski touring, mountaineering and hiking since 1975. For winter 2026/27, it is adding its first freeride collection.

Klättermusen is now available at SportFits: hardshells, insulated ski clothing, midlayers, baselayers, backpacks, bags and accessories for women and men.

From the workshop to the mountains

It all began in 1975 in Umeå, in northern Sweden, in a small hobby workshop run by local mountaineers. They developed components and technical solutions for problems they encountered in the mountains. In the 1980s, this became an outdoor equipment company.

The idea has remained the same: gear that lasts and is repaired rather than replaced. This is also what owner and CEO Gonz Ferrero said in an interview marking the company’s 50th anniversary in 2025.

You’re not buying fashion. You’re buying a partner for your time in the mountains, whether that’s an hour’s trail run or a month-long expedition.

Brage 2.0: the shell for freeriding and ski touring

Klättermusen’s first freeride collection is made for skiing and snowboarding, with shells, insulated clothing, layers and backpacks for days in the backcountry.

At its core is the Brage 2.0 jacket and bib trousers set, which Klättermusen describes as the most technical ski clothing in its range. The three-layer stretch fabric withstands a water column of over 20,000 mm and releases 20,000 g/m² of water vapour over 24 hours. All technical values in this article are according to the manufacturer.

Ventilation zips under the arms and on the thighs help during the ascent, while snow skirts and snow gaiters help on the descent. Brage 2.0 is unlined. What you wear underneath depends on the weather.

Meile: when the temperature drops

More warmth, fewer layers: the new Meile set builds on the Brage fabric and includes synthetic Thermore insulation. Water column rating over 20,000 mm, breathability over 15,000 g/m² in 24 hours. The hood fits over a helmet, and the detachable braces also attach to the Brage trousers.

Allgrön 2.0 and Cutan: a hardshell for all year round

The Allgrön 2.0 predates the freeride range. This three-layer hardshell has been available since the early 2000s and is designed for skiing as well as hiking. It weighs 624 g, withstands a water column of over 20,000 mm and has a RECCO reflector to help rescue teams during searches. It does not replace an avalanche transceiver.

The material is called Cutan, Klättermusen’s own waterproof and breathable fabric technology.

The layers fit underneath Brage or Allgrön: Fafne as a merino-mix baselayer, the Gimle wool-blend hoodie weighing 226 g, and the lightweight Drifa insulated jacket with PrimaLoft filling.

Backpacks for ski touring and travel

The new Gyme is available for ski touring in 25 or 35 litres, with a ski carry system, ice axe attachments and a separate compartment for a helmet and skins. The 30-litre Kåre has a wire-frame support and a front compartment for avalanche equipment.

For hiking, there is the Ull; for travel, the Ydalir series of duffel bags, with capacities from 25 to 80 litres; and for smaller items, the bags in the Algir series.

Who is Klättermusen for?

Klättermusen is a good fit if you spend a lot of time in the mountains and want gear designed to last for years. The brand is not cheap, and there are reasons for that. Klättermusen aims to make the most durable, long-lasting gear imaginable, and it focuses on repairing things rather than replacing them. The brand also changed its materials early on: to organic cotton in 2006, to nylon from recycled fishing nets for all its backpacks in 2009, and to a completely fluorocarbon-free collection in 2017. How Klättermusen approaches sustainability is described on the brand's own website. That way, the higher price is spread over many winters in the mountains.

Is Klättermusen right for you?

  1. 1

If you go freeriding or ski touring

  4. 4

If you need a backpack for full days of ski touring

Frequently asked questions

Where does Klättermusen come from?

From Sweden. The brand was founded in Umeå in 1975 by a group of local mountaineers.

What does the name Klättermusen mean?

Klättermusen is Swedish and roughly translates as “the climbing mouse”.

What is the difference between Brage 2.0 and Meile?

Brage 2.0 is an unlined shell that you layer underneath depending on the weather. Meile builds on the Brage fabric but has built-in Thermore Ecodown insulation, so it is designed for cold days.

Does the RECCO reflector replace an avalanche transceiver?

No. A RECCO reflector helps rescue teams with the search, but it does not replace an avalanche transceiver or companion rescue.
