Your skiing

Piste, powder or both?

Where do you spend your ski days?

Insulated for the piste

You mostly ski groomed runs and spend a lot of time on the lift? Then go for an insulated jacket. The warmth is built in, a base layer underneath is all you need.

Piste · insulated

For the piste: warm from the first lift

The men's Alpha LIFALOFT is filled with LIFALOFT, an insulation Helly Hansen developed with PrimaLoft. It keeps you warm without bulk and stretches in every direction. If it gets too warm after three fast runs, open the H2FLOW Air Force Ventilation. For women there is the tailored Alphelia Ski Jacket.

The Kvitfjell Race Puffy (men, women) comes from racing and was developed with the Norwegian alpine teams. The baffle quilting keeps you warm at the start gate and on the lift. It is available for women and men.

Freeride · ULLR

For freeride: lightly insulated, made for powder

ULLR is Helly Hansen's freeride line. The men's Garibaldi 2.0 has a light PrimaLoft fill under HELLY TECH Professional. It keeps you warm without overheating, and the powder skirt attaches to your ski pants.

The W Powshot Jacket is the women's counterpart: lightly insulated, with HELLY TECH Performance and vent zips. The back is cut a little longer and keeps the snow out, even in deep powder.

Shell · ULLR

Shell jackets: weather protection, you choose the warmth

A shell has no insulation. It keeps out wind, snow and wet, the warmth comes from the layer underneath. Sogn and Emiko are three-layer jackets with HELLY TECH Professional and taped seams.

The Sogn Shell (men, women) is the all-rounder for anyone who skis on and off the piste. The hood fits over a helmet, and the men's version has a RECCO reflector. The Emiko Shell (men, women) has a loose, boxy cut. That gives you freedom of movement in the park and on a snowboard.

Our take independent of the partnership

What the jackets are good for

Strong at

  • Cold days on the piste: Alpha LIFALOFT, Alphelia and Kvitfjell keep you warm right away
  • Freeride with lift access: Garibaldi 2.0 and Powshot are lightly insulated and easy to vent
  • Many days off-piste: you adapt Sogn and Emiko to every day with your mid layer

Not the focus

  • Long climbs on skins: insulated jackets get warm quickly. A shell with a thin mid layer works better.
  • A whole day in wet snow: the Alpha LIFALOFT is the better choice here. The Kvitfjell is sealed at the key points.

Our take: editorial team, as of October 2026. Based on information from Helly Hansen and the product descriptions at SportFits.

Why Helly Hansen

Helly Hansen comes from Norway. In 1877, Captain Helly Juell Hansen began sewing waterproof clothing from oiled linen in Moss. Today the brand equips ski patrollers, mountain guides and race teams. What works for them goes into the jackets for everyone else.
